Deborah has been a valued member of the BGCGW family since 2013. She started her career as a part-time Program Aide at the General Heiser Club and has since earned the position of Academic Success/Membership Coordinator. The kids and staff love “Ms. Debbie”, as they affectionately call her.
Managing dual roles is not easy but is rewarding according to Ms. Debbie. As the Academic Success Coordinator, she oversees the Stride program, an online learning tool designed to strengthen Club member’s academics, specifically reading literacy. “I love when Club members come into my classroom and say, “Ms. Debbie, I don’t have any homework today. Can you give me a worksheet or can I work on Stride? It warms my heart when I see the smile on their faces, when they’ve answered a question correctly.”
As the Membership Coordinator, she takes pride in greeting Club members and parents when they arrive at the General Heiser Club. Debbie says that something as simple as a bright smile and a warm “hello” makes a difference. “For every Club member who walks through our doors, I want them to have a safe, enjoyable and positive Club experience. My hope is that something I say or do will impact them to grow into productive citizens in our community.”
Ms. Debbie loves spending time with her husband, Mitch and 4 children—31 year old Jarrod, Charles 24, Brianna 23 and the youngest, 11 year old Morgan. She also enjoys watching her cherished cooking shows and finding different recipes to prepare for the family. Her service to the community is extended as an active member of her church where she’s worked for many years with youth. Planning events, shopping, taking in a movie and traveling locally and abroad are some of her other favorite hobbies
