Vera from Murraygate Club Wins BGCGW Youth of the Year Competition
Candidates gather for an inspiring celebration of leadership and achievement at the 2025 Youth of the Year event
Saturday, Feb. 8, was a day of excitement and inspiration as the 2025 Junior Youth and Youth of the Year candidates gathered for a series of events designed to celebrate their leadership and achievements.
The afternoon began with the JOY Hype Party, where the energy was high and the enthusiasm palpable. It was followed by the Youth of the Year Luncheon, where candidates shared their personal journeys, reflecting on their growth and the challenges they’ve overcome. The day wrapped up with the Candidate VIP Chill Zone, a space for the young leaders to relax, reflect, and connect with their peers
Since the fall, the candidates have been preparing for this moment, engaging in a process of self-discovery and leadership development. Throughout their journey, they supported each other and embraced new challenges. Their dedication culminated in a powerful showcase of their stories, with many stepping into the spotlight and inspiring those in attendance.
This year’s event also highlighted the Junior Youth of the Year program, which spotlighted rising stars as future leaders in the community. The candidates demonstrated confidence, passion, and purpose, proving that the next generation of changemakers is already making an impact.
The 2025-2026 Youth of the Year and Junior Youth of the Year winners and ambassadors were officially announced:
Junior Youth of the Year Ambassadors: Kesav, Clubhouse at Your House, I&I Scarlett, Jelleff Recreation Center, D.C. Junior Youth of the Year Winner: Yovanni, General Heiser Club, Va. Youth of the Year Ambassadors: Kira, Richard England Clubhouse 14, D.C. Aneyhia, Hylton Club, Va. Youth of the Year Winner: Vera, Murraygate Club The winners and ambassadors will continue to serve as role models for their Clubs and communities, inspiring their peers and stepping into leadership roles. Vera, the Youth of the Year winner, will represent Greater Washington at the Virginia/D.C. State Youth of the Year Competition next month. The event highlighted the growth, determination, and leadership of these young individuals, each of whom is poised to make a lasting impact in their communities and beyond.
