Revitalized BGCGW Athletic Association Promotes Healthy Lifestyles for Members
The Athletics Association at BGCGW has finally returned, after a short hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic. A massive comeback three years in the making, Director of Sports Operations Adrian McShane beamed over the future of the program. “Throughout the organization, we have noticed that our attendance tends to grow when we offer athletic programs throughout the course of the week. Noticing these trends, we are working on setting up regional leagues for members to participate in at the different branches located throughout the DMV,” discussed McShane.
At just 15-years-old, Tyler W. of BGCGW‘s Hylton Club in Woodbridge, VA, understands the value of athletics in building community and learning how to face challenges. ” Upon arriving to Virginia the Hylton Boys & Girls Club was my first stop. After learning what all the Club had to offer, I knew the basketball clinics would be my home.”
Both Tyler W. and McShane agreed that BGCGW Athletics act as a gateway for youth to become involved in a wide variety of Club activities, including STEM Club, tutoring, and performing arts. Programs within the Athletics Association also invite members to find healthy outlets for stress relief and supports members as they learn the value of maintaining an active lifestyle.
