January 25th was no ordinary night. The best of the best in Alexandria, VA showed up in support of our Dunbar Alexandria-Olympic Branch.
Alexandria’s Annual Dinner and Dancing gala was a night of fun and excitement! With entertainment provided by the Arthur Murray Dance Studio Alexandria, the Dinner brought together community leaders who have made extraordinary contributions to youth in Alexandria and the local Boys & Girls Club. Chaired by Frank Fannon, Branch Manager for SunTrust Mortgage, more than 175 guests packed The Carlyle Club in downtown Alexandria. Good times were had by all, but surely everyone in attendance would agree the highlight of the evening included its special guest host, Joe Theismann, and the youth of the Alexandria Club. Club member Diondre Charlton spoke about why he loves his Club and spends every day there. He also shared that what he likes most is the care and attention of the staff and the activities and opportunities that being a member afford him. BGCGW Alumni Ken Coleman spoke about his experience growing up in the Alexandria Club. He shared his experience of winning his first trophy at the Club and the feeling of self-worth and accomplishment it gave him. Then to everyone’s surprise, Mr. Theismann let four members of the Alexandria Branch try on his Super Bowl rings. The kids could not believe it.
Other illustrious guests included Mayor William D. Euille, Councilman John T. Chapman, Councilwoman Redella S. “Del” Pepper, School Board Vice-Chairman Christopher J. Lewis, Fire Chief Adam K. Thiel and Lieutenant Don Hayes.
We thank all of our volunteers, HQ and Club staff who made it happen as well as everyone who attended this very special event.
The silent and live auctions raised more than $10,000. Hott ticket items included autographed footballs by Joe Theismann and mini footballs autographed by Dunbar Alexandria-Olympic Branch youth.
This was truly a night to remember!
