Vera, the Youth of the Year for BGCGW, has won the DC/Virginia State Youth of the Year title in Richmond. Her speech, “Coming Out of the Shadows,” captured her personal transformation and the leadership she has demonstrated within her community.
To show their support, Vera’s family, friends, and mentors wore yellow—her favorite color—as a symbol of her vibrant energy and positivity. Her cheer squad included her mother, sisters, cousin Nadia, Derrick, mentor Mr. Michael, and the Youth of the Year support team, which consisted of Dr. Minnie, Ms. Green, and Laura.
Vera will now represent BGCGW and the DC/Virginia region at the Regional Youth of the Year competition in Atlanta on June 12th. Her win highlights the success of BGCGW’s leadership programs and serves as an inspiration to others.
