Education is a cornerstone of Boys & Girls Clubs, especially those programs that help members succeed in school and apply their knowledge and skills to daily challenges. Through activities that are educational and engaging, our members gain the strength they need to achieve their goals.
On June 7, BGCGW hosted its Annual Graduation Celebration sponsored by The Roy Hibbert, Jr. Foundation and Taco Bell Foundation for over 100 Club Members and parents that gathered at the Hylton Branch in Dale City, Virginia. The event honored the Class of 2016and celebrated academic success. BGCGW interim President & CEO, Jim Almond stated how proud he was of each member and what they bring to the Clubs.
Washington, DC and Virginia State Youth of the Year for 2015, Ayanna Holmes, gave an inspirational poem, saying, “You have to believe in yourself, or no one else will. Replace you can’t with you can. Define your purpose!” The 2016 Youth of the Year, Faith Moore, thanked her BGCGW family for helping her become a confident young woman. She also highlighted the Counselor Training Program, saying how important it was for all and that the youth of America can be the group to help end selfishness.
Other highlights included a keynote from Founder and President of The Fourth Quarter, LLC, Ray Nelson, Sr. and a touching presentation of gifts to BGCGW’s senior class.
In the program for the ceremony, graduates were charged with continuing their academic pursuits and to strive for excellence with their GPS: Goals, Plans, and Strategies. Sponsored by Geico, the Taco Bell Foundation and the Roy Hibbert Jr. Foundation, Club members and their families were treated to a delicious dinner and celebration with music and a photo booth.
Congratulations Class of 2016! You’re on your way!
