President Obama, joined by First Lady Michelle Obama and their daughter Malia, visited the George M. Ferris, JR. Clubhouse 6 on Monday, January 19 to commemorate the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service.
To celebrate the life and legacy of King, the first family participated in painting murals and helped assemble literacy kits that included books and flashcards. Joining the Obamas were White House senior advisor Valerie Jarrett; Rhonda Taylor, Sr. Advisor for Public Engagement, Corporation for National and Community Service; BGCGW Club kids and staff, Metropolitan police officers who regularly volunteer at the Club, and AmeriCorps members who helped things run smoothly before and after the visit.
