Staff Profile
Jelleff’s Passionate Program Director Patrick Leonard
Patrick is Program Director at the historic Jelleff Recreation Center located on S Street in DC’s Georgetown community. With five core programming areas designed to provide 21st century success, Patrick strives to bring his members innovation and FUN WITH A PURPOSE.
Having served in three different regions, Patrick is a true Boys & Girls Club Movement Professional. Club Members tell us that caring adults are the main reason they come back each day. Patrick is a shining example of this kind of care. He tells a story of the first basketball player he coached many years ago who, this past summer, came back as a Club volunteer. The young boy is now a young man, poised to graduate from high school and attend college. This type of success is why Patrick is happy to welcome new kids to the Club everyday.
Overseeing many of our volunteer partnerships, Patrick has also taken the lead on bringing members from our DC and Maryland Clubs together in new leagues that allow kids and teens, from neighborhoods who would otherwise never have the chance, get to make new and lasting friendships. They travel together and learn about healthy competition. He believes that athletic programming can absolutely be the anti-gang alternative. Instead of wearing gang colors, a Club team jersey can provide a POSITIVE sense of belonging, importance, usefulness and competence.
Outside the Club, Patrick loves hiking, backgammon, finding new brunch spots (good ones!) and watching Bradley Beal raining 3’s upon all of mankind!
When asked what one word describes himself, Patrick says Passionate.
We see this in all he does, and hope he will remain passionate about the kids and teens of Greater Washington for many years to come!!
