“There is an innate thing inside of every young person. My job is to help them discover it and nurture it.”
Born and raised in Washington DC, LeVar joined BGCGW in May 2012 as Teen Director at the FBR branch located at THEARC in DC’s Ward 8. Since then he has become an inspirational role model helping BGCGW teens reach their potential.
LeVar’s passion for youth development was first sparked when at the age of 15 he started an arts program at a local summer camp. Since then he has dedicated his life to providing opportunities that inspire and engage young people.
LeVar and his ExtremeTeens have built an award-winning teen program for young people in a community too often forgotten and void of opportunities. In January 2015, LeVar organized an event on MLK Day in response to the national crisis around police violence for young people of color. The day was so successful that it became the first in series of events that blossomed into the #OurLivesMatter Teen Movement.
This is one of many ways that LeVar brings hope and opportunity to the youth he serves. “I know my lane and this is it. When you are where you are supposed to be, that’s when the magic truly happens.” We hope that LeVar’s “lane” includes a long career at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington; our teens look forward to sharing his magical moments!
