Since 1886 we have been dedicated to our mission and focused on providing the best programming for our members. While not without its challenges, 2013 proved to be a great year for us.
In 2013, we kicked off our STEAM programming; infusing the arts into science, technology, engineering and math, making it fun and engaging for our members. Also this year, members across our Clubs maintained or increased their scholastic reading scores as a result of our Power Hour and Freddie Mac Reading programs. Not to mention, more than 500 youth completed community service through our Good Character and Citizenship programs, impacting more than 1,000 families in the Greater Washington area!
Our BGCGW Youth of the Year, Henry Lopez, made us all proud when he took home second place at BGCA’s South East Regional YOY competition. Henry is currently attending George Mason University on the highly coveted Honor Scholarship as an engineer major. He continues to serve his community as a mentor for The Dream Project in Arlington.
This year we also celebrated our 11th annual ICON talent showcase where 90 of our members exhibited their very best talents for a chance to perform on the Millennium
Stage at the Kennedy Center & the ICON Gala.
2013 has indeed been a great year. In 2014 we want to do it again – but better, which is why we kicked off our holiday campaign, Give the Gift of a Great Future.
Since Give the Gift of a Great Future started, we’ve raised $3,365 towards our $10,000 goal! On Giving Tuesday alone we received several very generous gifts, including a $1,500 donation from friends and supporters of Many Hats, 4Point4 and Unison Brand at the Sports 4 Inspiration event. (And we were featured in the Washington Post article on Giving Tuesday.) This is a great start, but we have $6,635.00 to go!
How can you help us reach our $10,000 goal?
With just a few clicks of your mouse, donate and help us give great futures!
