Danon Walton, BGCGW People DC/MD Clubs

Meet Danon Walton, selected as BGCGW PEOPLE for the DC/MD Clubs.
A native Washingtonian, Danon has worked in Boys & Girls Clubs since she was 15 years old. With more than 7 years part time experience, she has always wanted to be an Art Director in a Club, a post for which she was recently hired at Jelleff!
Danon graduated from Hampton University last year as a Graphic Design major and declares herself to be a visual learner and a “serial doodler.”  She is currently working on a degree in Early Childhood education and believes all her past experiences play together to lead to great outcomes for our members.
When asked about BCGCGW programming, you will hear about her respect for STEAM and the importance of the arts in helping to “connect the dots for kids; seeing the light bulbs go on.”
Danon came to our attention for her “Books and Barbies” program. An avid collector since the age of 12, when it came time to so some house cleaning, rather than sell or otherwise let go of her prized possessions she created a program for  6-8 year old Club members tying  Barbie to a love for  reading: grab a book and you get a Barbie! Starting small, in order to see how it would be received, the girls were thrilled so Danon will expand the program during the school year as a further motivation to read.
When asked about what the future holds, this lover of travel and tennis wants to finish her degree, do some more travelling and then open an art center for kids.
Danon, Team BGCGW is betting you succeed!
